Synopsis

In November 1964, Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara went to the Congo with two hundred men, intent on making it his first step in taking over Africa and South America. He failed, thanks in large part to the efforts of an intrepid band of Green Berets. Licking his wounds, he retreated to Cuba to recruit more men and try the same thing in Bolivia. He failed there, too. In fact, he died there, and thus, despite his incompetence, became a glorious martyr to the cause. But who was trying to kill him, really—and who was trying to keep him alive? The brotherhood is back—Craig Lowell, Sandy Felter, Jack Portet, Geoff Craig, Robert Bellmon, George Washington "Father" Lunsford, Master Sergeant Doubting Thomas—and their mission has never been more dramatic and deadly…“Strongly reminiscent of modern American military classics From Here to Eternity and The Winds of War… An intricately layered, epic novel.” —Publishers Weekly

"Special Ops" could easily have been the eighth book of the series and "The Aviators" could have been skipped altogether. In fact, Special Ops picks up almost immediately where "The New Breed" left off. Jack Portet had just finished helping the Belgian paratroopers liberate his family from Stanleyvi......more

The first fifteen percent of this novel follows very closely the action that was already related in The New Breed and The Aviators and that was a very sad mistake on the part of Griffin. Many of the lines and descriptions are exactly the same and since I’ve been reading the books in quick succession......more

This book annoyed me. The first third or so is lifted, nearly verbatim, from previous tales in this series. They may be foreshortened some or had a few pages tacked on but a lot was lifted, word for word. The majority of the story was good! We're back in the Congo this time disrupting and interdicti......more
