Synopsis

“[Clive Barker] is a mapmaker of the mind, charting the farthest reaches of the imagination.” —Washington PostFrom The Books of Blood to Hellraiser to Imajica, Abarat, and Mister B. Gone, Clive Barker’s extraordinary vision knows no bounds. With Coldheart Canyon, the New York Times bestselling master of dark fantasy who has been called “a cross between Stephen King and Gabriel Garcia Marquez” (Boston Herald) thrills readers with a “Hollywood ghost story” as audacious and chilling as anything he (or anyone else) has ever written. Film's most popular action hero needs a place to heal after surgery that has gone terribly wrong. His fiercely loyal agent finds him just such a place in a luxurious, forgotten mansion high in the Hollywood Hills. But the original owner of the mansion was a beautiful woman devoted to pleasure at any cost, and the terrible legacy of her deed has not yet died. There are ghosts and monsters haunting Coldheart Canyon, where nothing is forbidden.USA Today calls Barker's novel, “Endlessly entertaining…wickedly enjoyable,” and fans everywhere will agree—a tense and winding trip down into the hellish depths of Coldheart Canyon is well worth making.

Frank Muller does a good job reading this book. It is full of graphic sex & violence. It should be rated X for content and language. It is fantasy, horror, mystery & suspense. This book spans a long period of time. From Hollywoodland to Hollywood. Younger readers may not know all of the Hollywoodland actors, but it doesn't really matter. Fountain of youth meets ghost story meets tales from the crypt. My favorite character was the head of Todd's fan club. Clive Barker does an excellent job of 'fleshing' out his characters. Not recommended for anyone under 18 years old. The book is about the seduction of Hollywood and what can happen when you are seduced into the madness. Satanic references.

Preposterous yet emblematic; never restrained, overly graphic, written handsomely... it's less of a mess than previous novels surely, though undoubtedly nowhere near as great as his short stories are. ("The Forbidden", for me, reigns supreme in that category-- it may just be my favorite short story......more

First published back in 2001, ‘Coldheart Canyon’ came three years after the publication of Barker’s epic love story ‘Galilee’. With many fans of Barker’s work expecting the sequel to ‘Galilee’ to be following, or indeed the first instalment of the long awaited ‘Abarat’ quartet to emerge, ‘Coldheart......more

I have read nearly the entire collection of Clive Barker novels in existence. While I enjoyed them, each for their unique plots and tantilizing hints at sexual prowess, this book is my all time favorite. The canyon is a mystery that anyone would want to explore. It is a place where you have to ask your......more

Ugh. I’ve been sat here for a good 10 minutes now, staring at a seemingly ever-blankening screen because I simply don’t know where to start. This book has left my mind in a state of turmoil, thoughts and ideas tripping over themselves to get to the forefront of my brain. I want to say how much I ha......more
